Having graduated from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art in 1996, my art took a back seat while I raised my family. After a tumultuous period and a chronic pain diagnosis, I radically transformed my life to reclaim my health and happiness. Embracing art on my own terms became a key part of this journey. Now based in Glasgow’s South Side, I teach art to young people in special units at Govan High School. My life, rich with visual memories from schooling in Lagos, Nigeria, and growing up in a globally connected home, often informs my work. Cultural influences, colorful stories, and characters inspire me, alongside artistic greats like Henri Matisse, Jean-Michel Basquiat, and Gustav Klimt. My art draws from diverse influences, including graffiti, street art, and traditional indigenous patterns, leading me to explore my own symbolic imagery. The tactile process of creating, often without brushes, is both meditative and expressive, allowing me to process emotions intuitively—art as a form of therapy and self-discovery.
